Amenities
Two bedrooms, 1 bathroom. Sleeps 5. The main bedroom has 1 queen bed, a dresser and a closet, with storage under the bed. The second bedroom has 1 twin over double bunk bed and a dresser, with storage under the bed. Both bedrooms have windows and fans, with the small bedroom window opening onto a sunporch. The bathroom has a toilet, a 38” shower and small vanity.
Living space. In the main living area you’ll find a dining room table and chairs, small easy chairs, a comfy sofa, and a hanging loveseat.
Kitchen. We provide everything you need, and nothing you don’t. Dishware, pots and pans, cookie sheet, casserole/cake pans, cutlery and other basic cooking, eating and serving utensils. Appliances include an apartment sized fridge with a small freezer, a 24” range, small microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and teakettle. A bottled water dispenser for drinking water complements the UV-filtered tap water. There is also a full-sized propane BBQ on the deck, with an extra propane tank provided.
Linens. Pillows, sheets and blankets, basic bathroom towels, washcloths and dishtowels are provided, but of course you are welcome to bring your own.
Connectivity. There is both wifi and reasonable cell reception inside the house. There is also a 24” smart TV (no cable), with an HDMI cable and USB port.
Climate control. Temperature is managed by opening and closing the million and one windows found throughout the cottage and with ceiling/desk fans in the bedrooms and living area. There is an interior wood-burning stove which we disable for the summer months. There are baseboard heaters with individual thermostats in each room.
Accessibility. The cottage is situated on a hill, with a slope from the parking area to the house, and stairs from the house to the lake. Unfortunately it is not wheelchair or walker friendly.
And of course… The lake. You’ll be directly on the water, with stairs leading to a dock where you can launch your canoe, and there is a small, gradual-entry gravel beach at the edge of the property. A small deck and a porch overlook the lake with smaller outdoor chairs and two sturdy Adirondack chairs.
The fun stuff. There are two kayaks, two paddle boards and a canoe (along with paddles and life jackets) available for your use. There’s a small outdoor firebox; firewood can be purchased in Shawville. There are lots of hiking and biking trails nearby, and it's about a 10-minute drive into town, where there is a grocery, pharmacy, liquor store and hardware store, some small boutiques, a great bakery, restaurants and food trucks and a hospital.
